Places We Protect

Northeast Wilderness Trust protects wild landscapes across New York and New England. Using the best available scientific data, we focus on regions that offer expansive, connected habitats with high levels of biodiversity. Over time, these ecosystems will be most resilient to change as our climate warms. We safeguard these forever-wild places using one of two approaches: ownership or legal protection.

On these lands, nature calls the shots and people are visitors who come to experience solitude, wildlife, and beauty, with reverence and. Wilderness Preserves have low-impact trails, and a few of them allow hunting of over-abundant prey species. Wildlife Sanctuaries do not have any trails on them and do not allow hunting. Research Forests are properties where active, long-term scientific studies are taking place. All properties we own are open to the public for quiet, slow recreation.
